The Adirondacks region of northern New York State contains 3,000 ponds and lakes, 2,000 miles of hiking trails, more four-star resorts than any other destination in the state, nearly 100 campgrounds and, of course, the Adirondack Mountains. A land of crystal clear lakes and splendid mountains, the Adirondack Park actually takes up around two thirds of Upper New York State. The Adirondacks is best known for Lake Placid - home of the 1980 Winter Olympics.
